Trump to sign decree to end migrant family separations

Obama later criticized the policy that has resulted in thousands of families being separated at the U.S. -Mexico border, saying that watching these families broken apart in real time poses a very simple question to Americans.

The president's U-turn on the separation of children from their parents comes amid growing fury across the US's political spectrum over the detention of children, some as young as seven months old.

In the executive order he signed on Wednesday, Trump declared it is his administration's policy to "maintain family unity", including by detaining entire families together "where appropriate and consistent with law and available resources". That's what he did on Wednesday.

"Are we a nation that accepts the cruelty of ripping children from their parents' arms, or are we a nation that values families, and works to keep them together?"

USA immigration officials say 2,342 children were separated from 2,206 parents between 5 May and 9 June amid a "zero-tolerance" crackdown on illegal immigration brought in by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

OPEC+ eyes boosting crude output by 1mn barrels
Brent crude futures rose 18 cents, or 0.2 percent, to $75.26 per barrel at 0351 GMT, compared with their last close on Tuesday. Brent oil clocked a session high of $74.21 earlier today and was last seen trading at $74.00 - up 1.25 percent on the day.

House Republicans were reportedly working on a revised plan that would mean children would be detained for longer than is now allowed but kept with their parents, the Associated Press reports.

In a statement after the dinner, Department of Homeland Security Press Secretary Tyler Houlton described the protesters as people who "share her concern" about the current immigration system.

Under the order, entire immigrant families would be detained together by the Department of Homeland Security pending legal and court proceedings for the parents.

A subsequent ruling in 2016 required the government to release underage migrants from immigration detention within 72 hours and place them in the "least restrictive" settings possible, while generally barring the government from keeping children in family detention centres for more than 20 days. "Or, prosecute them and then under court cases and the law, they have to be separated from their children". An assessment is expected Thursday at Little Rock Air Force Base in Arkansas.

Mr Trump also said separating families was "certainly not an attractive thing and does look bad", added Representative Tom Cole. And lawmakers on the fence over pending immigration legislation headed to the White House to meet with Trump.

Reportedly, Intel's Chief Financial Officer Bob Swan will step in as interim chief Swan has been CFO for the company since 2016. Swan's credentials include nine years at eBay , and also time at Elecronic Data Systems Corp, both positions held as CFO.

One of the people familiar with Nielsen's thinking said she believes there is no certainty that Congress will act to fix the separation issue.

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted that "It's the Democrats fault, they won't give us the votes needed to pass good immigration legislation". They want open borders, which breeds disgusting crime. Republicans want security. But I am working on something - it never ends!'

In the letter, sent Tuesday to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Madara notes that the Administration's "zero tolerance" policy was recently discussed at the AMA's Annual Meeting, which includes delegates representing over 170 state and national specialty medical societies.

Trump's own wife, First Lady Melania Trump, said over the weekend that she hates to see families separated - although she stopped short of criticising her husband's policies. There now are three family detention centers with a total 2,700-bed capacity.

After Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a "zero-tolerance" policy in dealing with migrants who cross into the USA illegally, approximately 2,300 children were separated from their families since early May.
