What if Apple loses its Supreme Court App Store antitrust appeal?

The plaintiffs argued that, although developers set the prices of their apps, by charging them a 30 per cent commission on each purchase and allowing iOS apps only to be sold through its App Store, Apple has inflated the price of apps for consumers. Having raked in an estimated $11 billion from that arrangement in 2017, the company is understandably committed to maintaining the status quo.

The Supreme Court announced it would consider a case that asks whether consumers can sue Apple for the way it manages millions of apps for iPhones and iPads, threatening to expose not only Apple but also its tech industry peers to new antitrust scrutiny.

The case (Apple Inc. v. Pepper) brought by Apple customers faces an uphill battle.

LaVar Ball Gives LA Lakers Permission To Trade Lonzo Ball
The Lakers were determined to make the decision on LiAngelo Ball strictly a basketball one. It appears neither event, however, went as LaVar would have hoped.

You should definitely check out each of them - who knows, your favorite apps might be listed on table so hurry up! If you want to charge money for them, Apple will always take a piece of the action. The platform is fully locked down, so there's no official method to install apps from third-party sources. The case is expected to go before the Supreme Court in October. The court held that you can not sue for antitrust damages if you're not the direct customer of the accused.

The Justice Department backed Apple's position in the case, which will be heard by the justices later this year. As a result, apps could conceivably fetch lower prices, while maintaining margins for developers. Robert Pepper and three other iPhone-possessing petitioners proclaim that Apple has dominated the market for iPhone apps as it has the complete control over the games, utilities and other provisions that materialize in its App store.

Price flexibility is something app developers have advocated for during the decade since the App Store's launch.

If the court rules against Apple, it could lead to a huge shift in how the companies behind apps distribute their content. Apple's app distribution model could end up closer mimicking the way the Android app market functions.

A loss for Apple could mean trouble for other companies, like Google and Microsoft, which also have their own repositories for third-party apps on smartphones and other devices.
