Brexit rebellion costs British PM May another minister

May bows to Brexit pressure in parliament

One of the amendments practically says that the United Kingdom should not be collecting tariffs for Brussels unless the European Union does the same for Britain, one of the key ideas in May's original Brexit white paper that was created to keep the Irish border invisible. Brexit secretary David Davis and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigned last week over the deal, which they said is too soft.

He added: "The people voted to leave the customs union and the single market and the European Court of Justice and to take back control over our borders".

Parliament could also consider a government attempt to bring forward its summer break to Thursday from next week, which the government says is logical because there is very little parliamentary business in the remaining days.

In extraordinary scenes, the trade minister George Hollingbery engaged in open negotiations with the customs union rebels from the dispatch box, offering them a Lords amendment for a "customs arrangement" backstop if they backed down.

Brexit: Former Vote Leave chief slams Electoral Commission's £61000 fine
Another group, Veterans for Britain, were also found to have inaccurately reported a donation it received from Vote Leave and fined £250.

Pro-EU Tory Phillip Lee, who quit as a minister over Brexit, condemned any thought of an earlier break as "shameful" at a "crucial time".

But pro-European Tories have accused Mrs May of "caving in" to the party's Eurosceptic wing after the government agreed to their demands to change the wording of the Customs Bill, which is one of the key pieces of Brexit legislation.

But one MP told AFP they would likely not push it to a vote on Monday, instead waiting to see what the eurosceptics do.

"This could lead to a damaging and disorderly Brexit", she wrote. He said that he had taken the "very hard decision" to resign "to express discontent" in votes. To win, the prime minister has to win over half of the Tory party's 316 MPs, and if she does, another no-confidence vote could not be held for 12 months.

Mike Pompeo rejects European Union appeal for exemptions in sanctions against Iran
His comments appeared to be trying to ease local concerns fueled by Trump's decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran. In May, the Trump administration had pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and brought back economic sanctions against Tehran.

Her office has said there will be no second referendum under any conditions.

It comes after the government announced earlier today that it was backing the amendment, tabled by Brexiteer Tories, to trade proposals relating to the UK-EU borders after Brexit.

On Monday, May gave in to Tory hardliners by accepting four amendments to the bill, underpinned by her Brexit white paper, meant to toughen up her negotiating stance. He said he did not expect the bill, or another bill on trade due to be debated on Tuesday, to be blocked outright by the 650-member parliament.
