Corning introduces Gorilla Glass 6

Corning's Gorilla Glass 6 can survive being dropped over a dozen times. Ape not included

Gorilla Glass 6 has higher compression, which makes it more resistant to cracks when dropped on stress points from 1-meter heights. Gorilla Glass may not be flawless and does tend to crack when you least expect it, but it's the best in the market and does a good job of protecting a phone against nasty drops that everyone inevitably subjects it to. "This enables Gorilla Glass 6 to be more resistant to damage", Dr. Jaymin Amin, vice president of technology and product development, said in a press release.

Corning today announced its latest generation of Gorilla Glass, and it's now tougher than ever.

Microsoft Teases 'All-New Xbox Hardware' For Gamescom Reveal
It's reportedly being developed under the codename of Scarlett , and may be a family of devices rather than just a new console. And although there's the mention of "a few surprises" it's unclear whether they'll announce any major new AAA games.

Corning, the glass maker, on Wednesday unveiled its newest concoction - Gorilla Glass 6 - that should survive repeated drops from heights of 1 meter (3.28 feet).

According to Corning, the average person drops their smartphone 7 times a year. To improve cover glass performance, Corning scientists developed and engineered an entirely new material to address the challenge of multiple drops. Under the same test conditions, competitive glass compositions, such as soda lime and aluminosilicate, did not survive the first drop.

Blue Origin’s New Shepard spaceship hits new heights in escape test flight
The first test passengers may fly on the rocket as early as this year, with the first paying customers set to fly by 2019. "Anything could have happened today, and this is the best possible outcome", launch commentator Ariane Cornell said .

Earlier versions of Gorilla Glass have been used on all previous iPhone models since Steve Jobs chose the company to provide screen covers in 2006. These designs are providing new features and applications for consumers, such as enhanced wireless charging, larger screen sizes with smaller bezels, and customization through printed glass backs. It also performed better from higher distances than Gorilla Glass 5. Gorilla Glass 6 is the next iteration of Corning's revolutionary product and promises to offer "improved durability" and "unprecedented protection against multiple drops".
