Dozens of 'drunk' seagulls found on South West beaches

Seagulls have been found unconscious and throwing up in the streets of South West England and now RSPCA inspectors is trying to find out how they got the booze. "At first, the birds look like they have botulism but then, after vomiting, most seem to recover".

'Some have been found unconscious or staggering and all were reeking of alcohol, ' said vet David Couper, of the RSPCA centre at West Hatch near Taunton, Somerset.

Seagulls have been nursed back to health after more than a dozen birds were reported to be "drunk" like.

Boys Have Been Rescued From Thailand Cave
The operation to remove the boys could take three or four days, Third Region Army Deputy Commander Supachoke Thawatpeerachai said. After a 15 day ordeal, reports suggest first two boys of the Thai soccer team trapped in a cave have been brought out to safety.

Tracking down the source is proving hard but local breweries and distilleries after being urged to check the leftovers from their production process and ensure it can not be accessed by birds and wildlife.

The theory that they are scavenging alcohol on beaches came after firefighters had to rescue a drunk gull which had fallen off a roof in Lyme Regis, Dorset.

The charity described the effect on the birds as similar to how a human would react to excessive alcohol.

Lions eat rhino poachers on South African game reserve
One head and a number of bloodied body parts and limbs have been recovered from the area, along with three pairs of empty shoes. At the same time he'd heard a commotion coming from the lions so he suspected that's what prompted a reaction from the dog.

A veterinarian with the animal welfare charity told Sky News a few of the seagulls have died after showing symptoms of intoxication, but many are recovering.

Brewery waste can also be used as a compost and feed, so narrowing down where the seagulls are guzzling the alcohol from is hard. Daniel did say the gulls they collected stank of alcohol and that their vans now smell pretty much like the local pubs.

Anyone with concerns for the welfare of a bird or animal can contact the RSPCA's 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999 for advice or to request assistance.
