Israel plans its first moon launch in December

The prototype SpaceIL vehicle is unveiled at the President’s Residence

An Israeli organisation announced plans today to launch the country's first spacecraft to the moon in December, with hopes of burnishing Israel's reputation as a small nation with otherworldly high-tech ambitions.

The trio formed SpaceIL and partnered with state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries, envisioning a very small craft they believed could land on the moon by 2013.

SpaceIL will ship the as yet unnamed module to the United States in November ahead of the launch.

The first-ever Israeli moon mission will launch before the end of the year, if all goes according to plan.

About it reports Reuters with a reference to the Executive Director SpaceIL IDO Anteby.

Cristiano Ronaldo deal with Juventus has Fiat workers planning strike
At this stage, it isn't expected to have a major impact because Melfi is just one of seven sites used by FCA and USB only represents a small number of employees there.

SpaceIL was the only Israeli company involved in the Google Lunar X Prize competition, which carried a £15million ($20million) victory prize until it was scrapped in March 2018 due to contestants' missed deadlines.

It is measured to be four-feet high, and 6 ½-feet in diameter, and it will be able to reach a maximum speed of 22,370 miles per hour.

It will be launched on a SpaceX missile from Cape Canaveral, Florida, which will release its history-making cargo 60,000 kilometers from the moon.

The entire endeavour began roughly seven years ago when SpaceIL joined a Google technology contest to land a small, unmanned probed on the moon. Once the mission is accomplished, the developer said the spacecraft will remain on the moon as a "symbol of Israeli success". Upon receipt of a command from the control room, the spacecraft will enter a higher altitude elliptical orbit around Earth, which will reach a point near the moon.

Built by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the lander, which looks like a large spider, is created to land on the Moon.

The first stage of the lander will hoist the Israeli flag on the moon, he explained.

SpaceIL's module is to take photos and video of the landing site and measure the moon's magnetic field as part of a scientific experiment designed by Weizmann Institute researchers. However, the competition ended with no victor at the end of March, but the competition for the $30 million in cash prize continues, even without the cash.

The initiative aims to raise interest in space and science among Israelis and encourage the younger generations to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics professions.

Nevertheless, after raising enough funds, SpaceIL determined to continue its mission. In recent years, SpaceIL has ignited the imagination of about 900,000 children nationwide, with the help of a broad network of volunteers.
