Marvel's Black Widow finally lands a director

Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ Movie Lands Director Cate Shortland

According to THR, Austrailian director Cate Shortland will helm the film with Scarlette Johannson reprising her role as the deadly assassin.

Johansson is poised to reprise the role of the marvel's black widow for the much-anticipated standalone movie, and the 33-year-old has previously spoken enthusiastically about the prospect of Black Widow being handed her own film. Last month the director hunt narrowed with Amma Asante (Belle) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate) arising as the finalists alongside Shortland, while Inglourious Basterds breakout Melanie Laurent and Boys Don't Cry filmmaker Kimberly Pierce almost made the final cut.

Trump meets Theresa May, promptly says Boris Johnson would be ‘great PM’
As he said in his interview with the Sun she "is a very good person" and he "never said anything bad about her". Her office had no immediate reaction to his remarks, beyond referring back to her speech.

Best known for her work on Lore and Berlin Syndrome, Shortland was chosen apparently because she "had a fan in Johansson, who pushed for the helmer". The studio met with more than 70 filmmakers for the job before landing on Shortland, who sources say was an early favourite after a promising meeting with Johansson. She is the second female director in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) roster, following Captain Marvel co-director Anna Boden.

The Black Widow script is also penned by female screenwriter and producer Jac Schaeffer, best known for her 2009 film Timer.
