Northeast BC unemployment rate dropped almost one percent in June

Windsor's unemployment rate saw a slight dip last month.

The Canadian economy added more jobs than expected in June, helping cement market expectations that the Bank of Canada will raise interest rates for the fourth time in a year next week.

Victor Lindelof: I've learnt a lot from Jose Mourinho
Manchester United have dropped a major hint which suggests Anthony Martial could be staying at Old Trafford this summer. Tottenham, Chelsea and Juventus have all been linked with a move for Martial, but the forward is yet to make a move.

The federal agency said this was despite a net drop of 1,200 jobs from May to June. The bank's overnight rate target is 1.25 per cent. The country has its own trade feud with the United States and is also in slow-moving talks to revamp the North American Free Trade Agreement.

"If the BoC continues with its current approach of assuming that current trade arrangements will be maintained, the threat of auto tariffs and further trade tensions between the USA and China are unlikely to play a major role in the July 11th decision", he added.

The public sector gained 11,800 jobs and the private sector lost 2,000.

Ontario added 34,900 jobs for an increase of 0.5 per cent compared with the previous month, while Saskatchewan posted its largest monthly gain in over six years with the creation of 8,300 positions, which represented 1.5 per cent growth.

While the central bank's latest Business Outlook Survey was largely taken prior to US tariffs on steel and aluminum being imposed-a fact that the BoC also highlighted-the resulting uncertainty did not sway the C.D. Howe council's vote for next week's BoC meeting.
