President Trump announces Supreme Court pick

US President Donald Trump confers with the media upon arrival at Morristown Municipal Airport in Morristown New Jersey

President Donald Trump is set to announce his nomination for the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, to fill the seat vacated by Justice Anthony Kennedy when he announced his retirement on the last day of the Supreme Court session on June 28th.

Outside adviser Leonard Leo, now on leave from the Federalist Society, said on ABC's "This Week" on Sunday that this kind of jockeying is standard, noting that "every potential nominee before announcement gets concerns expressed about them by people who might ultimately support them".

President Trump will announce his Supreme Court nominee Monday night and the country will witness who the president will select to become the next Supreme Court Justice.

While activists and progressive groups are targeting moderate Republican senators who support abortion rights like Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, urging them to reject any Trump nominee who is hostile to Roe v. Wade, a handful of Democrats will be key in deciding whether the president gets his pick confirmed to the high court, because of the razor-thin partisan divide in the Senate.

Kavanaugh, 53, is a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit and Yale Law School graduate who previously served in both Bush administrations.

His wife, Lori Zappala Hardiman, "comes from a family of prominent western Pennsylvania Democrats", a report from a local Philadelphia TV station noted.

Casey, who promotes himself as a moderate, relatively pro-life Democrat, could encounter reelection difficulties in the key swing state Trump carried in 2016 by unilaterally opposing the president's nominee. Barrett was appointed by Trump to the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals past year. "There is no question in my mind regarding Brett for the Supreme Court".

Trump had little to say about his choice before the announcement. None is older than 53, meaning they could sit on the court for decades, allowing Trump to make a lasting imprint on the nation's laws.

Hardiman was reportedly on the shortlist of candidates to replace the vacancy left by the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Only Tottenham's Christian Eriksen (214) and Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha (234) attempted more dribbles than his 176 last season.

On the past quarter century's most consequential and controversial issues, from racial preferences to religious freedom to reproductive rights, Kennedy often bridged the gap between the court's liberals and conservatives.

But his work on President Bill Clinton's impeachment, his close ties to President George W. Bush and his ruling on President Barack Obama's health care law, which he opposed on procedural rather than broader legal grounds, have raised concerns among some conservatives.

Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer called Trump recently to warn it would be "cataclysmic" for national unity if he nominated someone hostile to Roe v Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that protects women's rights to abortion, according to a person familiar with the discussion.

Barrett of IN, 46, serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit.

Those views could have implications for independent counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of Trump.

The victor will face either Croatia or England, who play Thursday (2am Malaysia time ), in Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday. That familiarity with playing styles could affect how these teams approach one another in this semifinals match.

Trump has moved quickly to make a nomination while Republicans hold a bare majority in the Senate, which needs to approve the appointment. "We have to pick one that's going to be there for 40 years, 45 years". "I don't think my role is to rubber-stamp for the president, but it's also not an automatic knee-jerk no, either".
