It will be officially inaugrated today by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South Korean President Moon.

The new Samsung factory will have the capacity to fabricate 120 million smartphones per year, and make everything from low-end smartphones that cost under $100 to the company's flagship S9 model, according to the company.

The Korean chaebol said that the investment would position the Noida plant as a major production hub and create about 5,000 new jobs.

India overtook the United States previous year to become the world's second-largest smartphone market after China. The total mobile phone market in India for 2017 was around 288 million, according to IDC data with 164 million shipments of feature phones in total.
