Sixers trade Richaun Holmes to Phoenix Suns to sign Jonah Bolden

Tyson Chandler Suns

Philadelphia 76ers Head Coach Brett Brown announced today that the team has received cash considerations from Phoenix in exchange for the player contract of forward-center Richaun Holmes. ESPN later reported that the cash was $1 million for Holmes, who had a non-guaranteed, $1.6 million deal with the Sixers.

The Sixers acquired Mike Muscala from the Hawks on Thursday in a three-team trade and re-signed Amir Johnson this offseason, so Holmes was expendable. However, it soon became clear that the Sixers made the move in order to open up a roster spot.

Bolden spent last season playing for Maccabi Tel Aviv. But the plan was always for him to play there for just one season. The 24-year-old averaged 6.5 points in 48 games, with two starts, this past season.

Bolden now joins a growing contingent of Aussies to make it in the National Basketball Association. In 156 career games, he has averaged 7.4 points and 4.2 rebounds. The Sixers took Holmes with the 37th overall pick of the 2015 draft.
