UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson resigns amid Cabinet's deep divisions over Brexit

David Davis has resigned as Brexit Secretary

"The Prime Minister thanks Boris for his work", said a statement from Prime Minister Theresa May.

Mr Johnson said Britain was destined for a "semi Brexit" if the blueprint agreed by the Cabinet at Chequers on Friday is delivered.

Johnson's resignation comes amid outrage from anti-European U.K. officials who are angered by the "Brexit" plan adopted by Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May.

She also said that the government had no intention of extending Article 50, which is a notice of intention to leave the European Union, and that there will not be a second national vote on this Brexit deal. The Chequers deal hasn't yet been fully made public, but it includes a "common rule book" for industrial and agricultural goods and seems like more of a compromise approach, with a continued relationship with the EU.

Mrs May came under pressure from prominent Tory Brexiteers on the backbenches, with ex-leader Iain Duncan Smith urging her to rule out further concessions during the talks. Johnson called it an "absolute stinker" of a deal, and said that defending it is like "polishing a turd".

Rescued Boys in Hospital Quarantine
In the second day of the long, complicated and high-stakes rescue missions, a second group of four boys emerged on Monday. The four boys who were recovered on Sunday are now eating normal food, Jedsada said .

May's personal authority was badly damaged after she called a snap election past year to strengthen her hand in Brexit talks but instead she lost her parliamentary majority, meaning she has to rely on a small Northern Irish party to govern.

In his resignation letter, Johnson complained that May's Brexit bargaining stance gave away too much.

"My personal opinion is that she has strengthened herself quite a bit", he told Al Jazeera in an interview from London.

"This afternoon, the Prime Minister accepted the resignation of Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary", May's Downing Street office said in a statement.

Labour MP Andrew Adonis said Raab's appointment could spell the "death" of the Tory leader, while writer and editor Hitcham Yezza said Brexit has now become even more "shambolic".

William, Kate's third child Prince Louis christened
The monarch was due to return to London on Monday before a busy schedule of events including a meeting with U.S. James' Palace, while accompanied by her big brother Prince George and the rest of her family.

Davis, for his part, insisted that May's position as prime minister is still safe.

But although she has weathered the initial shock of the resignations, furious Brexiteers have warned that a challenge could come within weeks unless she changes policy.

He was named foreign secretary hours after Boris Johnson resigned, citing issues with May's Brexit policies. Meanwhile, there is an ongoing murder investigation into the death of a British woman due to Novichok, the same nerve agent used to poison Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter earlier this year.

The escalating crisis is casting new doubt on May's political future, with Brexit proponents saying her "soft" plan would force the United Kingdom into the worst of all positions; remaining locked in the union's open border scheme without any voting power.

In a pointed message, the President of the European Council Donald Tusk appeared to suggest that the resignations could spell the end for Brexit.

UK's May names new foreign secretary
Before Johnson quit, May's official spokesman, James Slack, said Britain wanted to "move forward at pace" in the negotiations. May appointed staunchly pro-Brexit lawmaker Dominic Raab as the country's new Brexit secretary.

"I've listened to every possible idea and every possible version of Brexit".
