Anderson takes five as India 107 all out at stumps

James Anderson celebrates one of his two early wickets on day two

The Delhi-born cricketer is presently playing the second Test of India's tour of England at Lord's. But those scalps did not materialize as Woakes and Jonny Bairstow kept piling on the runs, each addition to the total making an India victory ever more unlikely.

With Woakes, the first of England's three bowling all-rounders, at the crease alongside Bairstow, India could sense an opportunity to expose the tail. But Bairstow, as he's often done before, held firm while attacking the loose ball. Now he has answered any questions about his batting with a Test century at Lord's.

It is not hard to see why, in fact it is difficult to imagine anyone having a problem with Woakes, but it has not been his undoubted niceness that has propelled him to this point in his career - rather a steely resolve and determination to constantly improve.

Instead he fell seven short when brilliantly caught one-handed by diving opposing wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik off Pandya.

But Woakes, who had scored nine previous first-class hundreds, and Jonny Bairstow (93) turned the tide during a stand of 189.

That led to a pointed tip of the hat towards Leicester's summer business - which ended up exceeding that of the Red Devils. Let's play football and see by the end of November or December.

At stumps Woakes and Co.

For the tourists it seems their only hope of avoiding defeat and going 2-0 down in the five-match series is to perform a rain dance and hope the heavens open. All in all this was a chastening day for India.

Virat Kohli is now in the middle of a run-churning spree owing to his awe-inspiring form in worldwide cricket.

Woakes' top Test score was 66 before this innings but he soon reached his first century for England off just 129 balls in an innings which included 15 boundaries.

India now trail 1-0 in the five-match Test series after a 31-run loss at Edgbaston. Again, not much, but on a pitch such as this runs nearly count double.

Crocs to close remaining manufacturing facilities, executive to resign
Crocs became popular among hospital, restaurant workers, boating fans and others on their feet all day after its 2002 launch. The Colorado-based shoe manufacturer said it already closed its Mexico facility and will close its last facility in Italy.

By contrast, England's innings commenced under sunny blue skies that promised to make life easier for the batsmen.

The challenge for Kohli's side after the tea break is exactly the same as it was after the lunch break: take early wickets.

Chris Woakes gave Bairstow fine support as England stretched their lead.

With the forecast set fair for Saturday, it will be the turn of England's batsmen to drive home the advantage given to them by their bowlers on a day where there were two stoppages for rain spanning more than five hours.

What's done is done, though, and India will look for a disciplined bowling performance to get back into the game.

Anderson does the damage as India rolled out for 107
Jos Buttler (24) got in and got out before he too fell lbw aiming across the line as Shami took a third wicket this innings. Virat Kohli was involved in an almighty mix-up that led to Cheteshwar Pujara being run out as India were skittled for 107.

Shami changed the angle after not finding success initially and the move paid off immediately with Keaton Jennings (11) getting trapped plumb in front off a full delivery. He got off the mark with a four and looked composed throughout out his innings of 28 before he was LBW to Hardik Pandya (one for 16). Virat is now the top-ranked batsman in Test and ODI cricket. Just before lunch, however, India struck with the vital wicket of the skipper.
