Discord launches app store with major games, indies and exclusives

For those on the app's subscription service, Discord Nitro, a different library of games will also be available to them, at no extra charge. You see, with more than 150 million users and almost 20 million daily users, Discord has become a huge threat for Steam, a go-to platform for games for many.

And whether or not you care for the store, Discord might make your game experience a tad simpler.

Those lucky enough to take it for a spin will be met with an upgraded version of Discord Nitro - the platform's $4.99 monthly subscription service - that now grants access to a curated game library filled with a variety of titles like Saints Row: The Third, Metro: Last Light, Super Meat Boy, De Blob, and GoNNER. The company announced today that it will be opening up a storefront with a carefully curated selection of titles. Bad North, the release of which we discussed in detail here, should be among these titles. Of course, we think the games are really cool too!

Salah, Ronaldo and Messi on Champions League awards shortlist
The three nominees for the Europa League Player of the Season award are drawn from the final and continue the Spanish theme. Real Madrid have already lost Ronaldo to Juventus this summer.

The store will be like a small boutique bookshop that contains recommendations from employees scribbled on little note cards, Discord said in a blog post. At launch, Discord doesn't have a ton of games, but that list is bound to grow over time.

"We're excited to offer you the opportunity to catch up with fantastic game experiences you might've missed and even mix up what you play with your friends from time to time", the company said.

Chatting to Variety, Discord's chief marketing officer Eros Resmini says: "We've actually been mulling the idea for a long time".

Kawhi Leonard pens letter thanking Spurs, Gregg Popovich
But the 27-year-old didn't mention the Raptors in the letter, writing only that he was "looking forward to the next chapter in my career".

Discord's gaming store seems like the future of its business. Along with "First on Discord" titles; indie game titles that will only be available exclusively on the platform for a period of 90 days. For now, you will only be able to purchase games like Dead Cells, Frostpunk, Omensight, Into the Breach, SpellForce 3, The Banner Saga 3, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Hollow Knight, Moonlighter, This is the Police 2, and Starbound. The beta won't have any of those titles, but they're coming soon.

Nitro is shaping up to be a platform that will greatly support indie devs and their creativity; a thing our entire staff at The Indie Toaster is extremely glad of!
