Star Trek 4 May Lose Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth

Paramount

However, the disappointing box office of Star Trek Beyond appeared to slow down progress on the sequel. The report states that the actors, who play James and George Kirk respectively, "insist they have deals in place and that the studios are reneging on them, forcing them to take pay cuts as they try to budget a movie that is following a mediocre performer".

Obviously, if the two sides are unable to resolve the conflicts, the future of the Star Trek film franchise would look massively different.

Paramount has Star Trek 4 in development, which was supposed to be some sort of time travel adventure involving Chris Pine back as Captain Kirk with Chris Hemsworth returning as his father from the first 2009 movie, but now the actors have exited talks, at least for the time being. Now a couple of other Star Trek stars, new and old, are having a little fun with the matter.

News Corp not chasing mergers to compete with Nine-Fairfax powerhouse
Robert Thomson , CEO of News Corp, described FY18 as a year of "operational and transformational success" for the company. Telstra and News Corp merged Fox Sports , formerly 100 per cent News Corp owned, and joint-venture Foxtel in April.

Deals for the rest of the cast members, including including Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho are expected to make, which puts Star Trek 4 in one seriously tricky position.

The Next Generation alum Brent Spiner, who played the android Data, heard the news he playfully responded that he too was walking away from Star Trek 4, tweeting "Me, too!"

The main issue here is that the scenario seems to hinge on the casting of both Pine and Hemsworth. His status for the fourth film is said to be "murky". The actor signed for Star Trek 4 even before he shot Star Trek Beyond in 2015.
